Short, honest answers about what SaySoKids is, how it fits with therapy, and how to use it at home.
No. It is a free set of practice tools meant to support practice between sessions. It does not replace a speech-language pathologist, and it is not medical advice.
No. Nothing here diagnoses, assesses, or measures anything clinical. The Help me choose guide is a friendly starting point, not an assessment. For evaluation, see a licensed professional.
In everyday language, it is a motor-speech difficulty: a child may know what they want to say but have trouble getting the mouth to make the movements smoothly and consistently.
We are a practice aid, not a source of medical guidance. For accurate information and to find help, Apraxia Kids is a good place to start.
A parent (P5 Creative LLC), not a clinician, built it for their own child and shares it free so cost is never a barrier. You can read more on the Our story page.
They are designed to sit alongside therapy. Ask your therapist which sounds or words to focus on, put those into the tools, and use them for short home practice. Your therapist's guidance always comes first.
Yes. Several tools let you type your own targets: words in the Sound Slider, contrasts in Minimal Pairs, endings in Sound Swaps, and sentences in Phrase Builder. That way home practice matches what your therapist is working on.
If it helps, the parent dashboard can export a simple practice summary as a file you choose to share. Nothing is sent anywhere automatically, and there is no account.
Short and frequent tends to feel gentler than long and rare. A few minutes most days, stopping on a good note, works for many families. Follow your therapist's advice on amount and targets.
The Sound Slider is a good first stop for sounds and words. If you are unsure, the Help me choose guide will suggest a starting point. Begin easy and keep it brief.
Keep sessions short, celebrate effort rather than perfection, and stop before frustration builds. The First, Then board can make practice a small step toward something fun. Each tool also has a coaching card with a "stop when" cue.
There is no fixed age. The tools are simple enough for young children and flexible enough to grow with your own word lists. Use your judgment about what suits your child.
A few tools can play recorded sounds when those audio files are added. Until then, they use your device's built-in voice or a gentle tap cue, so everything still works.
SaySoKids stores no personal information about your child. There are no accounts and no ads, and it never asks for a name, email, birthday, photo, or any profile. Everything is on your device by default, and the parent dashboard reads only what is on that device.
If you turn on the optional sync feature, it copies only your word lists and settings, tied to a randomly generated code, so you can move them between devices. Recordings, and anything that identifies a child, are never uploaded.
On your device: word lists, settings, practice progress, and any voice recordings you make.
Only if you enable optional syncing: word lists and settings, under a randomly generated code. Never recordings.
Never requested or stored: your child's name, your name, email address, date of birth, address, school, photos, or voice recordings.
Syncing is off unless you set it up and turn it on. Until then, nothing leaves the device.
Yes. No paywall and no sign-up. If a way to donate ever appears, it will be a thank-you, never a gate in front of the tools.
We would love to hear it. You can reach us at [email protected].
Any modern phone, tablet, or computer with an up-to-date browser. It works well on an iPad in Safari and on Android in Chrome.
Yes. For a full-screen, app-like feel you can add it to the home screen: tap the share icon in Safari, then Add to Home Screen.
Once a page has loaded, activities that use your device voice keep working without a connection. The first load of each page, and any recorded sound files, need a connection.
In the Sound Slider's grown-up settings, open the sound bank and use the record button next to a sound. Recordings are saved on the device and are never uploaded.
The built-in voice comes from the device itself, so it varies by phone, tablet, and browser. If a word sounds off, you can record your own version in the Sound Slider.
Two ways. Use the optional sync in the Sound Slider: get a code on one device and enter it on the other to copy word lists and settings. Or use Back up all data in the parent dashboard to save a file and restore it on the new device.
Only your word lists and settings, never recordings and nothing that identifies a child. Your data stays on each device, so losing a code is not a problem. A code is only needed to copy settings to a new device, and you can generate a fresh one anytime.
There are no separate profiles yet, so lists and progress are shared on one device. You can keep more than one word list and switch between them for different children.
Open the tool's grown-up settings and delete the item from its list. Each tool also has a reset option, and the parent dashboard can back up or clear data.
Recordings live in this site's storage on this one device and in this one browser. Clearing browser data, using private or incognito mode, or switching browsers will hide them. Recordings are not included in the backup file, so they do not move between devices.
Yes. If your device has a reduce-motion setting turned on, SaySoKids follows it and calms its animations automatically.
Many children can tap through the activities on their own, but they work best with a grown-up nearby to model sounds and keep it positive. Settings sit behind a quick grown-up check so little hands do not change them by accident.
