Female and male voices play recorded word files from audio/talkboard/female/ and audio/talkboard/male/, named for the word (for example want.mp3). Any word without a recording uses the computer voice, so you can add voices over time.

Tap pictures to speak words and build a sentence your child can play back. It works like a basic AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) app: a free way to try picture-and-speech communication or to have a backup on hand.

Tap a picture to hear the word and add it to the strip.
Tap Speak to say the whole sentence out loud.
Use Categories for topic words, and Spell to type a word letter by letter for a child who is ready (it is optional, not a reading lesson).
Tap the full-screen button (top right) for a distraction-free board, like a tablet talker. Exiting asks a quick grown-up question.

Coaching tips for grown-ups

Say: What do you want? Show me. Then model it back: You said, I want juice.

Watch for: Let your child lead. Honor whatever they tap, even a single word.

Stop when: Follow your child's interest. Stop when they are done, not on a timer.

Make it easier: Start with just two or three pictures so the choice is clear.

Make it harder: Build a longer sentence together, then tap Speak and say it along with it.

This is a free starting point and a backup, not a full AAC system. If your child needs AAC as their main way to communicate, an evaluation with a speech-language pathologist is the right next step.
