First, Then

A simple picture plan: first we do the task, then comes something fun. It helps a child see what is coming and move through practice with less stress.

  1. Set the First and Then pictures and words in settings.
  2. Show your child: first this, then that.
  3. When the task is done, tap First is done to check it off and celebrate.
Coaching tips for grown-ups

Say: First we practice our words, then it is play time. Point to each picture.

Watch for: Keep the First task short and doable, so the Then comes soon.

Stop when: Honor the plan. When First is done, give the Then right away.

Make it easier: Pick a Then your child really wants, and keep First tiny.

Make it harder: Slowly grow the First task over days, not all at once.
